Joy has been teaching gymnastics, fitness and music to children for over 30 years, and came to Gold Star in the summer of 2005. She has coached gymnastics at the YMCA and in private clubs, is a music teacher, and has taught Physical Education at local elementary schools. Joy earned an A.A. in Early Childhood Education from Canada College, and a B.A. in Creative Arts from San Jose State University, She is CPR and First Aid Certified, and has her USA Gymnastics Safety Certification and Kinder Accreditation and Hands-On Teaching Training for Preschool Gymnastics. As a high school gymnast Joy competed in Class I (the level just below the Olympians level), and went on to the UC Davis gymnastics team, helping them to win the Division III National Championship in 1980. Joy placed third All-Around in this National Competition, and earned All-American Honors. Added to all of these talents, Joy is also a professional musician who has released vocal and flute CD’s. In 2015 she became our Floor Coordinator, mentoring and training our new coaches, while providing support to both our staff and clients every afternoon. We are extremely lucky to have a woman of her expertise and enthusiasm, share her busy schedule with us. She is an invaluable member of our staff, and most importantly her students find her just as exceptional as we do.
